The Spanish Academy of Music continues to reward and recognise excellence in the sector.

  • The Academy begins the process of organising the new awards that will recognise the talent, quality and excellence of the many professionals in our sector in 48 different categories.
  • The deadline for the presentation of candidatures by professionals and companies within the sector opens today.
  • Eleven commissions of experts, representing all musical sectors, will evaluate the candidates to determine the nominations, to be announced at a public event on 21 March, which will then be voted on by the members of the Academy.
  • The uniqueness and relevance of the awards lies in the fact that they cover all levels of the music industry, including live music, so that awards will be given, among others, for the best live performance, the best tour, the best arrangement or album design.
  • The awards, which are sponsored by the Community of Madrid with 4 million euros, will be presented at an amazing gala to be held in early May as part of the region’s festivities, with the participation of leading artists and professionals from the Spanish and Latin music scene.

The Academy opens today the process of presentation of candidatures for all professionals and companies that wish to opt for these sector awards that are created to recognise talent and excellence in each of the phases of creation and dissemination of music in our country and which will be presented the first weekend of May in Madrid, within the framework of the Community’s festivity.

The Spanish Music Academy, unveiled last week, creates these awards with the firm support of the Community of Madrid on an annual basis and with the challenge of positioning itself as an international launching pad for our musical community.

The awards are intended to become the most important in the sector, rewarding the best work and professionals in the field of creation, promotion, protection, study and development of Spanish, Latin American and world music. This brilliant showcase will display “the enormous wealth that Spain possesses in music and will be a great showcase for excellence, talent and the creative and productive work of the musical community”, according to the Academy’s president Luis Cobos at the presentation of the new association last Wednesday in Madrid.

The Academy is already made up of more than 300 scholars, personalities who are absolute references for the entire sector in their different professional disciplines, and more than 600 highly experienced members. Its presentation last Wednesday was the demonstration that the different professionals of the Spanish music industry can unite in a unique and global voice that represents the feelings and interests of the sector with a common and transversal view, contributing to its national and international projection.

Madrid will host the gala awards ceremony, which already has the strong support of the Community of Madrid, which will allocate 4 million euros to the event, a proof of its commitment to professionals, the music industry and the talent of our country, which will turn the Spanish capital with this great event in the musical epicentre inside and outside our country during the week of celebration, as the days prior to the gala the Community of Madrid will be filled with music with the development of an agenda full of important activities and events with music as a common thread.

The Gala, which will be held at the Wizink Center, will be the crowning touch and the moment of collective celebration to honour the year’s music sector professionals. The ceremony will be attended by the main artists and professionals of Spanish and Latin music, and will be broadcast by a top level television channel, guaranteeing maximum audience with a very dynamic and impressive format. Done+Dusted, one of the leading companies in the production of international events such as the Oscars, the Super Bowl, the Emmys and BAFTA awards or the London Olympic Games ceremony, will be in charge of the event.

From today, 30 January, the Spanish Academy of Music opens a call for applications from professionals in the sector until 15 February. Nominations will be sent through a digital tool created for this purpose, (https://academusica.es/premios-academia-2024)

The nominations will be submitted to eleven committees of experts representing all sectors of the industry and the Academy, which will evaluate them to form the list of nominees that will be announced at a public event on 21 March. And it will be the academicians, registered in the census of the Academy and members with the right to vote until 20 March, who will vote for the best among these finalists.

The 48 categories of the Spanish Academy of Music Awards cover all levels of the music industry, and this is what makes these awards unique and relevant compared to others in the sector. In this sense, among the values to be recognised are the best live music concert, the best tour and the best arrangement.

In its desire to encompass all genres and aspects of music, distinctions will also be awarded to flamenco, jazz, classical, electronic and urban music, children’s music and soundtracks for series and films, best album design and best music video clip.

In addition, at the proposal of the Academy’s governing bodies, there will also be an Honorary Award, the Latin Awards (Best Latin Album and Best Latin Song) and the International Awards (Best International Album and Best Song).

The Spanish Academy of Music is very excited and encourages the whole sector to participate and submit their candidacies in order to make visible the quality and plurality of sensibilities, an unequivocal sign of the richness and potential of the sector.
